Earth Tones Native Plant Nursery is a unique and specialized nursery that focuses on growing Northeast native plants. These plants are not only aesthetically beautiful, but also ecologically beneficial, attracting native wildlife, increasing biodiversity, and supporting healthy ecosystems. The nursery offers a wide selection of nearly 400 species of native trees, shrubs, grasses, sedges, ferns, and perennials, including bog and aquatic plants, all organized by habitat or ecosystem. With their expertise in landscape design, ecological consulting, and environmentally-sound practices, Earth Tones helps customers incorporate regionally native plants into their landscapes, strengthening overall resilience and adaptability in the face of climate change.
It’s a beautiful place for all types of perennial plants, trees and shrubs native to CT. They don't sell any annuals, vegetables or herbs. They're also not open Sunday through Tuesday. Their prices are in a catalog that doesn't list every plant being sold, so it can be difficult to determine prices and they are quite expensive compared to other nurseries. So its a good day trip, I do recommend going maybe once a year, but I'm glad it is a far drive otherwise I'd be broke if I went every weekend.
This place is amazing! I've taken friends there on a tour. I've referred others to it. I love to go! I buy 30 or more plants each year for the pollinator Garden volunteer project I lead in New haven. Our garden, Mariposas del Mundo, educates people on butterflies other pollinators and native plants. Last year we planted a shady nectar garden and a sunny early butterflies Garden section. Almost all the plants came from Earth Tones.
When comparing this nursery to others, both online and in person, I have found that the size of the plant you get for their price makes this nursery a great deal. I found found plants that are half the price here than what I could find online. Additionally, they have some species that I have a lot of trouble finding else where, and some that fit in just the right location. The staff onsite are also helpful and knowledgeable.
In awe! Visited Earth Tones Native Plant Nursery yesterday for the first time and was pleasantly surprised by the plethora of native plant varieties they had available. This is not your typical nursery. My husband and I spent almost 4 hours viewing the many designated areas that feature native grasses, ferns, perennials, shrubs, and trees. Plantings are arranged by type of plant as well as light and water specifications. Before leaving with a car full of unique natives we had the pleasure of crossing paths with Kyle, the owner, and speaking with him about this establishment and the high level of detail and care he and his wife take in offering almost 400 different varieties of natives. Although we live over 90 minutes away, this will not be the last time we visit. Only wish I lived closer.
I've made several lovely trips to this nursery and always leave happy. Beautiful property with a large and consistent selection of native plants. Helpful and friendly staff. Great to wander, get inspired, and invest in hardy plants that will serve your home well.
