Herring Run Nursery

Purchased many native plants from here. All very healthy. The staff is very knowledgeable. The parking is awkward. You have to walk down a dirt road and they use a small truck to take your plants to the car.

Great place to learn about and buy native plants. Staff are exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful. I've gotten excellent advising on selection and care of the plants I've bought there. All plants They carry are native and excellent for local ecosystems. They also carry very healthy stock of plants. Highly recommended for any conscientious gardeners.

Though smallish for a nursery, Herring Run really has a great variety of native plants to build your ethical, wildlife friendly garden - all at pretty reasonable prices too! We've built 6 dedicated garden areas, mostly with their stock, including a rain garden, 3 shade gardens, a sun garden, and bolstered our yard's tiny wooded area with ferns, shrubs, and woodland flowers. We've also added 6 trees to our yard and some shrub areas. All of the stock from here has thrived, even through some negligence of our own during droughts. Some Highlights: 1) They always have someone knowledgeable on hand to answer any questions or help you decide on the best plants to suit your needs, you can even contact them through facebook. 2) Smooth checkout process with convenient and environmentally friendly emailed receipts. 3) They offer gift cards! 4) Nursery events for the whole family throughout the year, like the harvest festival in attached pic. 5) Educational opportunities, like the rain barrel workshop and tips on gardening for birds and bees. OVERALL: Beyond this being an excellent local native plant nursery, it's nice to know that the money you spend here does double the good, as all of their profits go to fund Blue Water Baltimore projects. Super. Always fun, if you love plants! Great help and advice. They don't have everything, but if you're building or changing your landscape it's a great first stop! Small enough to get to know people. Great experiences every time. Check out the special events too! I bought a rain barrel this year, and they helped me prepare it in the course. Great! This winter I'm going to paint it, maybe stencil! Such a joy, this place and all the workers and volunteers! Feels like a secret. However, Go! Support the effort. You won't regret it!

I went for opening day, It was my first time visiting. There is a little hike from the parking lot to the nursery (be advised for anyone with mobility issues), but they do have golf carts for transport, got to ride one back up from the nursery. I love that i can go and just grab all these native plants and not have to wait for them to arrive from an out of state store. They also have an online store so you can shop/research the plants before you go in person to pick them/or buy them online. Side note ive been back and brought more!
