Oak Hills Place, Louisiana
LSU Hilltop Arboretum is a premier destination for Louisiana native plants and ecological education, spanning fourteen beautifully landscaped acres in Baton Rouge. This public arboretum showcases an extensive collection of native trees and shrubs representative of Louisiana's diverse ecosystems, from woodland canopies to meadow wildflowers and bamboo groves. Beyond its role as a retail native plant nursery, Hilltop Arboretum serves as a living laboratory for environmental education, offering guided programs, plant sales, and community events that connect visitors with the natural beauty and ecological importance of Louisiana's native flora. The grounds provide a tranquil refuge for learning and contemplation while supporting conservation and habitat restoration efforts throughout the region.
Cute little place. I kind of expected it to be a little bigger but that was my mistake. Beautiful place for a short morning walk. Very quiet and Serene. Just the sound of the gravel path underneath your feet. I will say that the cantilever wouldn't deck around the Little pond is a little unnerving and feels a little unstable but I made it safely.
Such a gem! I am a purebred BatonRougen and I JUST Discovered the arboretum!? Love this park so much, so easy to just wander through the trees and breathe. The pond near the pavilion is so peaceful with all of the little turtles waddling about in the water. Great spot!!
-It is nice and peaceful; a maintained property -Plants can be purchased here, too. You can use the qr code and make your purchase selectiona. -There are venues that can be rented, as well.
Very green and relaxing place. It is open from dawn till dusk, and the office/gift shop is only open normal hours (like a 9-5). There are turtles in the pond, if you go up to the deck and look over, that will come to you. There are a bunch of interesting trees and a few flowers. It’s very earthy and smells fresh. There are multiple paths in, and not a hard closing time, so if you are concerned just park outside the gate. There are bees in the far back past the hill near magnolia trees, and lots of insects and birds. Check the office when you go, as this place is a venue for people to use and could be closed. Overall, very relaxing.
I performed for a friend's daughter's wedding and had never visited the arboretum before this date. The grounds were impressive and the facilities were fine and neatly kept. There is ample parking and this park is very scenic and serene. There is a paved trail and a pond which adds to the tranquil atmosphere. Of course, I was unable to fully enjoy the park because I was there to perform wedding music. The majestic trees in this elevated area provided a great backdrop for music and enjoyment of the company of the attendees. I marked this as a place to visit for a nice nature walk in the near future as a consequence of experiencing it for the purpose of providing wedding music.
