About

The Illinois Native Plant Society is dedicated to the study, appreciation, and conservation of native flora and natural communities throughout Illinois. Based in Springfield, the organization promotes scientific research and practical knowledge about Illinois' native plants through annual grant awards, educational resources, and community engagement. With six active chapters across the state, INPS connects botanists, native plant enthusiasts, and conservation advocates to advance habitat restoration and the sustainable use of native plants. The organization offers membership opportunities, hosts annual gatherings and native plant sales, maintains comprehensive plant identification resources, and operates a competitive research grant program that has distributed over 49 grants since 2018. Whether through volunteering, membership, or participation in local chapter events, individuals can directly support native plant conservation while learning how to create biodiverse gardens that support pollinators and other wildlife.
