About

The National Tropical Botanical Garden (NTBG) operates five unique botanical gardens throughout Hawaii, dedicated to growing a brighter tomorrow for tropical plants and the ecosystems they sustain. Using a biocultural approach that integrates Indigenous knowledge, community priorities, and scientific research, NTBG works to restore flourishing relationships between plants, people, and places across the tropics. Through conservation, study, and sustainable use of tropical plant species—including their flagship Breadfruit Institute dedicated to breadfruit conservation and reforestation—NTBG engages visitors, members, and volunteers in understanding the vital role plants play in sustaining all life. The organization invites the community to support its mission through membership, volunteering, and participation in educational programs and garden experiences.
