Master Gardener Program

About

The University of Tennessee Extension Master Gardener Program is a volunteer-driven educational initiative dedicated to improving the lives of Tennesseans through research-based horticulture education. Operating across the state with local county programs, this collaborative network trains passionate gardeners to become knowledgeable advocates and educators in their communities. With over 205,000 hours of volunteer service annually—representing a value of more than $6.2 million to Tennessee—Master Gardeners provide accessible, science-backed information on lawn care, garden design, native plants, and sustainable landscape practices. The program combines statewide leadership expertise with local, in-person training to equip volunteers with the skills needed to help residents create beautiful, healthy gardens while promoting environmental stewardship. Whether you're interested in becoming a certified Master Gardener volunteer or seeking expert gardening guidance, the Tennessee Extension Master Gardener Program offers multiple ways to connect with local horticultural resources and contribute to a statewide network of plant enthusiasts.
