About

Wild Ones Lake-to-Prairie Chapter is a dedicated native plant conservation organization based in Grayslake, Illinois, committed to healing the Earth one yard at a time through environmentally sound landscaping practices. Founded in 1996 by Prairie Crossing residents inspired by the Wild Ones national movement, the chapter works to restore and preserve natural habitats reminiscent of northern Illinois' historical ecosystems shaped by Lake Michigan, the Des Plaines River, and the prairies. For nearly three decades, the Lake-to-Prairie Chapter has championed biodiversity conservation by educating the public about native plants, sustainable landscaping, and the critical role of native species in supporting wildlife and pollinators.

The organization offers a vibrant array of programs including speaker series on sustainable landscaping, field trips to natural areas, workshops on native plant landscaping, and educational events focused on topics like pollinator conservation, birds, invasive species management, and forest ecology. Chapter membership, available for $40 annually, supports the development of these programs while providing members access to the Wild Ones Journal, a bi-monthly publication tailored to native plant enthusiasts. Whether visitors are beginners or experts, the Lake-to-Prairie Chapter welcomes community members to learn about native plants, connect with fellow nature enthusiasts, and actively participate in creating a healthier, more biodiverse environment throughout the region.
