About

American Prairie Reserve is a conservation organization dedicated to creating one of the largest nature reserves in the United States across Montana's Great Plains. With a mission to connect 3.2 million acres of Montana grassland, the organization works to preserve temperate grassland prairie—one of the world's most endangered ecosystems—while serving as a refuge for both wildlife and people. Through land acquisition, ecosystem restoration, bison conservation, and collaborative partnerships with non-profits, Indigenous communities, and local stakeholders, American Prairie Reserve actively restores and protects critical prairie habitat. The organization emphasizes community engagement and public education, inviting visitors to deepen their appreciation for the short grass prairie landscape through their National Discovery Center and field programs. Donor-supported and science-driven, American Prairie Reserve demonstrates that prairie conservation is not only necessary but achievable through coordinated land management and community commitment.
