About

Hoyt Arboretum is a living museum of trees spanning 190 acres in Portland, Oregon, dedicated to conserving endangered species and educating the community about trees and ecology. Founded in 1928, the arboretum houses an impressive global collection of 2,300 tree and shrub species from six continents, including 67 rare or endangered species across three nationally accredited collections of conifers, maples, and magnolias. Through its partnership with Hoyt Arboretum Friends, the organization offers extensive educational programs, guided tours, and volunteer opportunities that connect people of all ages with nature while advancing conservation and stewardship of Portland's natural heritage. Visitors can explore 12 miles of trails, participate in seasonal activities, and engage in community science initiatives that support both environmental protection and public access to the health benefits of nature.
