Master Gardener Program

About

The Mississippi Master Gardener Program, operated by Mississippi State University Extension Service, is a community-based volunteer initiative that trains and certifies individuals in consumer horticulture and related areas. Through a structured program combining 40 hours of educational training with 40 hours of volunteer service, Master Gardeners extend the educational reach of university horticultural research and recommendations to local communities across Mississippi. The program creates a network of dedicated volunteers who provide evidence-based gardening information and support county Extension offices with horticulture projects that directly benefit their regions. By developing a supportive community of gardening enthusiasts, the program amplifies the impact of university extension services while providing participants with expertise, networking opportunities, and meaningful community engagement.
