Master Gardener Program

About

The Ohio State University Master Gardener Volunteer Program is a research-based horticultural education initiative that has been serving Ohio communities since the late 1970s. With more than 3,000 active Master Gardener Volunteers operating across 62 Ohio counties, the program provides intensive training to passionate residents who then dedicate their expertise to educational outreach and community beautification. In 2024 alone, Ohio Master Gardener Volunteers contributed over 182,000 hours of service—valued at more than $5 million—to their local communities. The program connects volunteers with county Extension offices to answer gardening questions, conduct plant clinics, develop demonstration gardens, and engage with diverse populations including children, seniors, and disabled individuals. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or simply passionate about learning and sharing horticultural knowledge, the Master Gardener Volunteer Program welcomes participants of all skill levels to make a meaningful impact in their communities.
