Master Gardener Program

About

The University of Vermont Extension Master Gardener Program is Vermont's trusted resource for horticulture education and community gardening support. Based in Burlington, the program trains dedicated volunteers using science-based horticultural practices to become educators within their local communities. The Master Gardener Program empowers Vermonters to create home and community gardens that enhance food security, improve physical and mental health, support pollinator and wildlife habitats, and strengthen community connections. Through their comprehensive volunteer network, garden helpline services, and educational resources, the program cultivates resilient, healthy communities and ecosystems across Vermont. Participants of all ages benefit from learning opportunities that promote environmental stewardship and sustainable gardening practices. The organization also operates the Vermont Master Composter Program, providing additional pathways for residents to develop composting knowledge and give back to their communities.
