Master Gardener Program

About

The Iowa Master Gardener Program, hosted by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Ames, empowers community members to become expert gardeners and environmental stewards. Through volunteer training, continuing education, and hands-on community projects, Master Gardeners have donated over 103,000 pounds of produce and contributed more than 116,000 volunteer hours to improve Iowa's gardens and green spaces. The program serves home gardeners of all skill levels by offering expert-led courses, webinars, and workshops while providing current volunteers with resources, professional development, and opportunities to share their knowledge. By combining horticultural education with community service, the Iowa Master Gardener Program creates lasting positive impact across the state, fostering sustainable gardening practices and connecting Iowans with the science of plants and soil.
