Master Gardener Program

About

The Iowa State University Extension Master Gardener Program empowers community members to become knowledgeable horticulturists and environmental stewards across Iowa. With a track record of significant community impact—including over 103,000 pounds of produce donated and nearly 117,000 volunteer hours contributed—the program combines expert horticultural education with hands-on volunteer service. Master Gardeners receive continuing education through workshops, webinars, and courses led by Iowa State University Extension specialists, enabling them to share their expertise with home gardeners and communities throughout the state. The program offers multiple pathways for engagement, whether individuals seek to become certified Master Gardener volunteers, participate in home gardening education, or access plant identification and gardening resources. By connecting volunteers with meaningful opportunities to improve gardens, landscapes, and food systems, the Iowa Master Gardener Program strengthens horticultural knowledge and environmental stewardship across Iowa's communities.
