Native Plant Society

About

The West Virginia Native Plant Society is dedicated to the conservation and appreciation of West Virginia's native plants and habitats. The organization works to educate the public about the critical ecological role native plants play in supporting wildlife, providing essential shelter and food sources, and supporting pollinator populations that maintain biodiversity. Through comprehensive resources including field guides, photo galleries, plant identification tools, and educational materials on invasive species management, WVNPS empowers both professionals and volunteers to understand and protect the state's vascular flora. The organization maintains the Checklist and Atlas of the Vascular Flora of West Virginia, a monumental collaborative effort documenting the distribution of native plants throughout the state, and actively promotes West Virginia Native Plant Month each April to raise awareness of native plant conservation.
